All Things Bicycles

All Things Bicycles

We have a broad range of cycle based activities on offer which cover such outcomes as creativity, problem solving, fine and gross motor skills, balance, risk taking, physical exercise and introductions into forms of alternative technologies.

Spin Painting

The Spin Painting Trike is at the core of our project and has been our main and most popular resource since we started out in 2007. It is a tandem tricycle which can also pull a trailer creating a mind boggling quintacycle (five wheeled bicycle). When we get to our destination it transforms into a pedal powered station which the children have to cycle in pairs. Various ‘Power Take Off’ units are driven by the Trike to deliver the rotation needed for the workshops. The spin painting activity is hugely popular with amazing results. The Trike can also run a pedal powered smoothie machine, dynamo powered Shadow Puppet show, sound system and zoetrope.

12 volt generator and sound system

Through our use of photo-voltaic panels and bicycle powered generators we are able to run a 12 volt sound system and LCD projector. APE Project worked in partnership with the Cinema, Spoke ‘n’ Chain and the Magnificent Revolution from London to develop this resource. Kids love the notion of producing electricity using push bikes and this can be a great way to power a small kids music stage or film for a community event.

Pedal powered Smoothies

The pedal powered smoothie machine is a great way to have fun whilst promoting a healthy diet and physical exercise. The faster you pedal, the faster the fruit gets blended, with children working co-operatively and inventing their own flavours.

Crazy Bikes

It’s a crazy world of 25 unimaginable wacky bikes, trikes, scooters and cycles all of which defy convention. The bikes come in a range of shapes and sizes to suit children from 3 years to adult and for all abilities. These cycles are not only fantastic fun but promote active lifestyles and improve gross motor skills, balance and co-ordination. This activity is fully insured and risk assessed with helmets provided.

Cycle Maintenance

A hands on practical workshop for both children and adults, to be able to bring their bikes along to a session for maintenance and repair. As well as learning practical skills this helps children with problem solving, logic and gets them back taking exercise on their bikes.

Bike Bling and Décor

Bring along any neglected bikes for a strip down and respray to bring them back to life. As well as a paint job, the bikes can go on to be decorated with flags, spokeys and tassels, all designed and installed by the children and young people themselves. Not only do the bikes look great again when finished but this activity encourages children to once more ride their bikes and get fit.

Carousel

Our pedal powered carousel comprises of 8 recycled children’s bikes welded together to a central hub to create a fun and physically challenging activity. The carousel is suitable for most children of primary school age and is accompanied by our pedal powered sound system which play traditional fairground melodies.
